Pipcorn was founded by brother and sister team Jen and Jeff Martin. Living the lives of young professionals and entrepreneurs, money was quite scarce and they often didn’t have extra money to spend on lavish meals. Sometimes they didn’t have the money to spare for any sort of meals at all. The brother and sister team got used to munching on snacks like popcorn to satisfy their cravings. Popcorn became an essential in their apartments and something they always had. In the spring of 2010, Jeff was helping Jen move to a different New York City apartment when they both became very hungry for a snack. It was at this point that Jen remembered some cool mini-kernel popcorn she had picked up a few days earlier. Five minutes later the two were snacking on the best popcorn they had ever tasted and the idea for Pipcorn was born.
With a lot of help and support from their friends and family, Pipcorn was launched in 2012. Pipcorn started off slower, with Jen and Jeff totally spearheading everything from production to fulfilling orders totally by themselves. By the end of 2013 Pipsnacks had grown to higher three employees and had about 200,000 dollars in sales. In November of 2015, Jeff and Jen were granted an appearance on the ABC hit show Shark Tank. The Sharks fell in love with the product and New York City Real Estate Legend Barbara Corcoran invested in the business, investing 200,000 dollars for 10 percent equity. After their appearance on Shark Tank, the business absolutely exploded. Jen and Jen grew their profits in 2015 by 800-900 percent from their 2014 numbers and they went on to higher about 40 employees. Pipcorn is now in over 75 markets countrywide and is still growing. They have won awards for their product at the Specialty Foods Asociation’s Fancy Food Shows.
Pipcorn is made from a delicious, and cute miniature corn cornel. What is so interesting about this mini popcorn is that it does not have hulls, which means it comes with all the delicious taste and none of the annoying choking on corn hulls or having to pick them out of your teeth. Jen had always grown up with a very sensitive stomach and had a variety of gastrointestinal issues. Despite her loving popcorn and eating it quite frequently, she often got sick due to not be able to properly digest the tough hulls of the corn. With these amazing mini cornels there are no hulls and the popcorn is much easier to both eat and digest. Pipcorn is made with non-GMO corn cornels, is all natural, gluten free, vegan, and made with whole grains. All of the delicious Pipcorn flavors are popped in small batches in New York City and seasoned by hand.
