Vermont Village Applesauce was founded and started as the village Cannery of Vermont in 1977 by Jim Shepherd. They were gathering apples from their property that they didn’t want to let go to waste. This led to the opening of three local canneries in South Barre, Vermont. Thee canneries were places where anyone in the community could get their products canned and where farmers could sell their produce to the canners who required various items for sauces, salsa, chutneys, and more. This heavily helped support the growth of locally made products and the local Vermont farmers as well as their local produce.
Vermont Village applesauce makes their applesauce and apple products the old fashioned way, cooked in small kettles, using the whole apple including the eel. They add no water or sugar to their products. The result is a delicious, healthy treat that can be enjoyed with any meal or anytime as a snack. Vermont Village applesauce is sold in farmers markets, co-ops, general stores, and super markets throughout the country. Vermont Village is owned and operated By Jim Shepherd and local peopled based right out of Vermont. There are no corporate pressure or outside interests.
